First sale – yippeeeee

Today we officially sold 7 cases of wine to the New World supermarket here in Blenheim.  So if you’re local and wanting to give it a try, New World is the place to go.  They are going to run an opening super special on these few cases only.  We will probably only just cover costs, but the ’profit’ as such is in the marketing: the chance to get into the market, to get people buying it and to get the Fiasco name known.  In a couple of weeks Aaron is going to be in store doing tastings.  So if you want the chance to give the winemaker some stick, Saturday October 25th is the day ;-)

We were also contacted by Peter Saunders from Auckland today requesting some background on Fiasco Wines for his book.  Peter writes ‘A Guide to New Zealand Wine’ (25 editions) and we were impressed that he had spotted the Fiasco name as a recent addition on the Winegrowers New Zealand membership page.   The net certainly makes connections easier :-) .    This is a great opportunity to get our story out there and into a highly regarded Wine Guide.

I should point out though that today’s small breakthroughs have been accompanied by plenty of knocks too.  Some outlets have simply not wanted to know and we have had to get thick skinned about such outright rejection, even though it is frustrating.  A Nelson supermarket said they had too many different brands already, an Auckland wineshop said they weren’t taking on anything new at the moment, another guy we spoke to said sorry but he hated the name Fiasco.   Such is business, you have to have persistence and stay on the barrel even its three steps back, two steps forward.
